POA Fellows Forum

The Caris Precision Oncology Alliance™ (POA) is exclusively focused on precision oncology to optimize clinical care and outcomes of patients with cancer. Oncology fellows at POA institutions gain unique access to cutting-edge molecular profiling technologies, collaborative research opportunities, and educational initiatives—equipping them with the knowledge and tools to integrate precision oncology into their clinical practice and research.

The Caris POA Fellows Forum is a two-year program designed to cultivate emerging oncology talent and drive advancements in precision medicine. This highly selective initiative empowers fellows who are eager to make a meaningful impact in cancer care by providing a transformative experience built on three core pillars: engagement and collaboration, research, and education.

Research and Publication

  • Fellows will have the unique opportunity to develop and lead new Letters of Intent (LOIs) for research projects under the guidance of a dedicated research mentor from the POA network. This mentorship provides a structured yet flexible framework to explore novel hypotheses and design studies that push the boundaries of precision oncology.
  • Additionally, fellows will have an opportunity to author and publish a unique case report, spotlighting rare or challenging clinical scenarios they encounter.

Precision Medicine Curriculum

  • Education is a cornerstone of the Fellows Forum, equipping participants with a robust understanding of precision medicine’s role in modern oncology.
  • Fellows will engage in a curriculum tailored to discuss topics critical for shaping the field of precision oncology, including topics such as next-generation sequencing technologies, genetic counseling, and clonal hematopoiesis.

Being a Fellow at a Caris POA institution offers exceptional opportunities to engage with cutting-edge precision oncology research and clinical practice. At the start of the program, Fellows from POA institutions are matched to a leading POA oncologist based on research interest area.

In the program, the Fellow will:

  • Submit Letters of Intent (LOIs) for research projects fostering hands-on experience in study design and execution.
  • Gain access to the Caris POA Annual Meeting and network with top oncology researchers, present findings, and stay at the cutting edge of precision medicine
  • Engage in our disease-specific working groups, collaborating with leading experts to explore innovative research and clinical advancements.
  • Foster peer-to-peer networking opportunities by attending virtual and in person meetings which allows for improved collaboration, increased publication productivity and better peer exchange.
  • Discuss career opportunities with leading experts in the industry.
  • Engage in an educational curriculum tailored to discuss topics critical for shaping the field of precision oncology.
  • Opportunity to write and publish a case report in a medical journal

These experiences provide Fellows with the tools, connections, and expertise to shape the future of cancer care.

• Demonstrated interest in cancer research, clinical oncology, or precision medicine (e.g., through prior research projects, clinical practice, or publications).

Strong Interest in Cancer Research & Precision Medicine

Demonstrated interest through prior research projects, clinical practice, or publications.

Commitment to a Research Project

Ability to dedicate 12-24 months supporting a research LOI from inception through publication.
3rd-year fellows must confirm their commitment to completing the project, even after their fellowship ends.

Candidates must possess interest in pursuing a research project aligned with the POA’s priorities, such as (non-exhaustive examples below):

• Identifying predictive and prognostic biomarkers;
• Advancing molecular testing standards in oncology; or
• Improving therapeutic options through clinico-genomic data analysis.

Applications for the 2025/2026 cohort will open in July of 2025. Please check back at that time to apply.
