Caris Foundation announces $2.5 Million Commitment to Pink Ribbon-Red Ribbon Partnership

Gift will fund the management and coordination of the Partnership as well as offer discounted pathology
Irving, TX, September 16, 2011 – The Caris Foundation, a non-profit private foundation established in Irving, Texas, to aid impoverished people by helping provide for their basic needs, has announced a 2.5 million dollar commitment to the Pink Ribbon-Red Ribbon (PRRR) Partnership, in conjunction with Caris Life Sciences, Inc. This public-private initiative is led by the George W. Bush Institute, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and UNAIDS.
The Caris Foundation and Caris Life Sciences will provide support for the management of the Pink Ribbon-Red Ribbon Partnership through a $2.5 million donation to fund the management and coordination of the Partnership.  In addition, Caris Life Sciences will provide discounted and in-kind anatomic pathology and molecular diagnostic services to ensure breast and cervical cancer patients are diagnosed early and given information about which therapies are likeliest to succeed in the treatment of their disease.
Introduced earlier this week, this new initiative will expand the availability of vital cervical and breast cancer screening and treatment for women at risk in developing nations in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. The cervical cancer screening and treatment services leverage the platform and resources of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), established initially under President Bush and continued as a cornerstone of President Obama’s Global Health Initiative (GHI).
“The Caris Foundation and Caris Life Sciences’ partnership with PRRR will make critical diagnostic tools available to women who are needlessly deprived of vital cervical and breast cancer screening and treatment,” stated Kathy Halbert, Co-founder of Caris Foundation.  “Promoting early and accurate diagnosis of breast and cervical cancer is absolutely critical to determining the most effective cancer treatment, and we applaud PRRR’s efforts to ensure appropriate treatment of these diseases earlier and with greater efficacy.  The Caris Foundation and Caris Life Sciences believe this partnership will help alleviate suffering for many women, and we are honored to play a vital role.”
