The John Wayne Cancer Institute
Since 1981, the John Wayne name has been committed by the Wayne Family to leading-edge cancer research and education, in memory of their father who died of stomach cancer in 1979. The Institute, previously known as the John Wayne Cancer Clinic at UCLA, was formed by the Wayne Foundation and headed by eldest son Michael. Over the next decade, Michael Wayne served as Chairman of the Board – a position he held until his death in 2003. Patrick Wayne, Michael’s brother, now serves as Chairman of the Board and provides continued determination toward the family’s goal of curing this dreaded disease.

USA Mitchell Cancer Institute
Since 2008, MCI has focused on recruiting clinical faculty, developing clinical services and research programs, recruiting research faculty, establishing core research support facilities, and promoting use-inspired research and technology development. Currently, the full-time MCI clinical faculty comprises nine medical oncologists, three gynecologic oncologists, three radiation oncologists and three medical physicists. In addition, participating MCI “Member Physicians” from USA and throughout the community and region are provided access to clinical research trials, the collective expertise of our interdisciplinary team of clinicians and researchers, and to MCI core support research facilities. MCI is thus poised to provide clinical services and clinical trials to a diverse and underserved population of South Alabama and the Gulf Coast Corridor.
